… The primitive, unspoilt nature of the farm where he would spend twenty-one years with his family facilitated the structure of Grabmayr‘s future work into series, variations on a few subjects. The rock in the Kamp river is next to the sand pit: the moving element of water contrasts with the still, heavy stone. Conversely, the stone often becomes a dramatically moving island in the midst of a still sea of blue. The Kamp Rock of 1976 no longer recalls a real object from the physical world; were it not for the title, the colour would be enjoyed unclouded by object references. Nothing binds Grabmayr‘s brushstrokes, nothing tames his palette knife; the thick, burr-like and swollen masses of colour unfurl an intensity that is hard to resist. ...
